MTZO has many avenues in which it can reach the community. One of the main ways is through our “Outreach” programs These programs focus on traditional performances, workshops and innovative presentations. The following describes programs for the community at large by MTZO.

Operatic Productions with Orchestra:

Martinez Opera performs full length operatic performances in the city of Martinez. These performances are professional and only highly skilled performing artists are used for the productions. A union orchestra is hired as well as SAG singers and actors are utilized. Volunteers from the community as far as Alameda and Solano Counties make up the Chorus, set builders, and production staff.

Traditional Concert Presentations:

MTZO performs in various venues for groups and organizations of Martinez as well as Contra Costa County. These include programs that reach all social economic and ethnic groups in the region. MTZO has performed for the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, The Kiwanis club, Son’s of Italy, First night Martinez, 4th of July celebration, Church groups, farmers market, Fiesta Italia, Amgen tour of California bike race, Contra Costa Historical Society, Martinez Chamber of Commerce and many others.

Pro Production:

This program offers teens and adults the opportunity to work on sets, costumes and props for the current production. We create a workshop lead by leading designers in Contra Costa County to build these sets under the guidance of carpenters, painters and artists. Local participation from talented adults are essential to the success of this program. MTZO's main focus in this outreach program is to engage a positive productive environment to challenged youth in the Contra Costa County.

Commitment to Seniors:

In 2004 MTZO partnered with LITA, (Love is the Answer) , a non profit organization, committed to senior entertainment in homes for the elderly in Contra Costa County. “Singers for Seniors” was developed as a program to bring operatic music into the lives of the elderly. Our singers commit to one or two performances a month and have unique experience of sharing their talents with those that are not fortunate enough to see them on stage.

Culture for Kids

Arts in Education:

Through our “Sing me a story” programming, MTZO presents one hour programs to K-12 children. These performances are presented in school auditoriums, after school city sponsored community programs, libraries and churches. The original play “Papagenos Search for Love” written by Maria Billingsley and Donna Olson, introduces children to several operatic characters including Carmen that has been translated in Spanish. MTZO also performs “The magic chest” a short program which involves a hands on approach to learning opera.

Early Childhood Music Education:

MTZO presents short musical programs to children under the age of five to various daycare centers in Contra Costa County. The presentation of “Princess of the day” features the works of Mozart in a delightful presentation from the Magic Flute, followed by a craft session with characters.
